Nigeria’s 2022 Commonwealth Games Gold medal winner, Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for doping on Saturday.
The 21-year-old Nwokocha, ran Nigeria’s anchor leg in the 4×100 winning women’s relay is included on the list of athletes placed on provisional suspension for various doping offenses.
The athletics body disclosed this via its official Twitter page on Saturday night. “The AIU has provisionally suspended Nigerian runner, Nzubechi Grace Nwokocha, for the Presence/Use of Prohibited Substances (Ostarine & Ligandrol) (Article 2.1 and Article 2.2).”
“Nwokocha will now be excluded from any other competition until a final decision is taken at a hearing conducted as per World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) rules.”
The athlete in a statement said, “In doping cases, a Provisional Suspension is mandatory under the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules following an adverse analytical finding for any non-specified substance on the Prohibited List.
“Provisional Suspension may be imposed in other doping cases depending on the nature and circumstances of the case in question.”
